Parent-Child-Sibling Derivative Course Information

Once the course is created, often the teacher or administrator would like to edit or make changes to the course. With the SchoolsPLP Parent-Child-Sibling Derivative course structure, teachers and administrators can alter courses while having connected courses receive updates even while students are actively working. Meaning, changes can be made anytime throughout the school year and updates will still trickle-down to child or sibling derivatives of the course.

Districts are able to create “district standard courses” or ”master courses” to use across the district for all schools and all teachers. These courses are called Parent courses within our system. Child courses are copies of the Parent courses with the ability for teachers to create further copies. For example, an Algebra teacher teaching 4 periods of the same Algebra course could edit their teacher master course, and their other courses would update automatically.

Sibling courses receive updates from the Parent District Master Courses. For example, if there is a consistent 5th grade scope and sequence, and all 5th grade teachers follow the same course structure, Sibling courses would be created for them. This would still allow the teacher to customize and add to their curriculum while still being able to receive updates if and when the Parent District course is changed.

Static copies of courses are disconnected from any updates.
