FYI Teacher's Guide

Overview

FYI courses are recommended mostly for blended-learning environments because of the included printable assignments. FYI courses follow a consistent instructional design with the content divided into concept lesson folders. Each folder may contain a readable lesson, an assignment, and a lesson quiz. The readable lesson may contain some of the following: lesson objectives, informative videos, concept examples, questions to consider, maps, charts or image examples, and links to additional information. The printable assignment can be completed offline, or students can submit their answers in the assignment’s submission box. Each lesson quiz assesses students’ knowledge of the lesson objectives.

It is recommended that teachers who utilize FYI courses are knowledgeable in the subject matter, so they have the expertise to grade the printable assignments without answer keys.

Some teachers who use FYI in complete online learning environments choose to hide the printable assignments which allows students to focus only on the readable lessons and quizzes.

How to Customize a FYI Course

To hide assignments, teachers can use the eyeball icon next to the lessons in the course editor.

Assignments can also be hidden by using the “Remove from plan” function in the Learning Plan tab.
