Mathspace Teacher Guide (23/24 courses)(New)

Mathspace is available in year long and semester courses in grades 3-12

Courses contain:

  • Adaptive tasks (Lesson and adaptive practice)
  • Quiz in each unit (units with less than four lessons will not have a quiz)
  • Unit Test
  • Exams (semester courses have a Final Exam, full year courses have a Midterm and Final Exam)

Lessons / Adaptive Task Practice

Students will access the adaptive task by clicking on the link in SchoolsPLP to navigate to Mathspace

Students will work on 3 rounds of practice for each task. Students will need to collect the number of stars indicated to complete each round. In the example below, students must collect 3 stars to complete a round. Students will click Start practicing to begin working.

Lessons can be accessed by clicking on the Lesson button in the right side toolbar. Other tools, such as hints, examples, calculators, and a sketchpad can also be accessed on the sidebar.

Students may make some errors during their practice, however, as long as they come to the correct final answer, they will earn a star.

Once students have earned enough stars to complete each of the 3 rounds of practice, the task will complete and send a grade of 100% to the SchoolsPLP gradebook indicating that the student completed the lesson/adaptive task.

Note: the "Allow retry" button in the SchoolsPLP gradebook is not functional in Mathspace courses. If students would like more practice, the task can be re-accessed by clicking the link in the SchoolsPLP lesson, then navigating to the completion screen by clicking the Continue button and then click Keep practicing to work on more questions.

Assessments (Quizzes, Tests, Exams)

  • Hints, worked solutions, and lessons are not available during assessments
  • There is 1 (hidden) retry available in the course for each assessment. Teachers can use the learning plan to assign (un-remove from plan) the retry for individual students or for all students in the course. (Note: the "Allow retry" button in the gradebook is not functional in Mathspace courses.)
  • Students may earn partial credit for correct final answers with some missed steps.

General Info

  • It is best practice, for students to switch back to their SchoolsPLP tab every 10-15 min to ensure their SchoolsPLP session stays active.
  • Closing the browser tab, where students are working on Mathspace, will save all student progress. (There is no save and continue button)
  • Teachers can use the "Login to Teacher Insights" link in the course resources folder to navigate to Mathspace to view students' work.

Changes in 23/24 courses

  • No End Task button on adaptive tasks
  • Students earn stars in 3 rounds of practice in place of meeting a set mastery score to complete a lesson/adaptive task
  • All courses in grades 3-12 have quizzes, unit tests, and exams
