Accommodation Options Explained
Below is a description of each available accommodation setting:
Never Automatically Assign the Minimum Activity Score to Past-Due Activities
Prevents the system from automatically assigning the minimum score (typically zero) to overdue activities.
This overrides the course-level setting for that individual student.
Automatically Allow Retries for Below-Passing Activities
Allows the student to retry activities scored below the minimum passing threshold.
- Passing thresholds are set in Course Settings or individual activity settings.
- CR Pre-tests are excluded from this setting.
- This setting can also be enabled at the course level if needed for all students.
Ignore Activity Passwords
Allows the student to bypass activity passwords.
This is helpful when:
- Passwords are given during class
- A student was absent and needs access later
Ignore Time Limits on Assessments
Removes any time limits set on quizzes, tests, or exams for the student.
Note: Time limits are not enabled by default but may be set by teachers in activity settings.
Always Allow SpeechStream in Assessments
Enables the SpeechStream (text-to-speech) toolbar during assessments.
By default:
- SpeechStream is enabled in lessons within S-Catalog courses
- It is not enabled during quizzes, unit tests, or exams
This setting allows the student to use text-to-speech during assessments.
Limit Number of Options on Multiple-Choice Questions
Limits how many answer choices the student sees on multiple-choice questions.
Available options:
- Any number of options (default)
- 2 options
- 3 options
- 4 options
This can help reduce cognitive load for students who require it.
Special Accommodations
Allows staff to enter written notes regarding specific accommodations (such as those related to an IEP).
- These notes are visible in the Gradebook
- Teachers can view them by clicking the flag icon next to the student’s name
Use this field to document accommodations that need to be observed but are not system-based settings.

Viewing Accommodations in the Gradebook
Teachers can see accommodation notes in the Gradebook by:
- Opening the course
- Clicking the Gradebook tab
- Selecting the flag icon next to the student’s name
This will display the student’s documented accommodations.

Important Reminders
- Student-level accommodations apply to all courses.
- Some accommodations can also be set at the course level if needed for multiple students.
- Only users with Registrar or Admin permissions can edit student accommodation settings.
