C-Computer Science (C-CS)

The C-Computer Science (C-CS) catalog includes courses provided by our partner publisher, CompuScholar.

Because these courses are publisher-based, they function differently from courses in the standard S-Catalog.

This guide explains how to access teacher materials and properly grade activity items.

Important: How C-CS Courses Differ

  • C-CS courses are powered by CompuScholar.
  • Some grading actions must be completed on the publisher’s website.
  • Certain teacher resources are hidden from student view.

Accessing Teacher Guides & Answer Keys

Throughout the course, you will see items labeled Teacher Guide or Answer Key.

These items are hidden from students but available to teachers.

To Preview a Teacher Guide or Answer Key:

  1. Open the course in the Course Editor.
  2. Click the three dots to the right of the item.
  3. Select Preview from the dropdown menu.

This allows you to view the hidden instructional materials.

Grading “Activity” Items

C-CS courses handle grading differently than S-Catalog courses.

Important:

When a student submits an Activity:

  • A zero is automatically sent to the gradebook.
  • This zero allows the student to continue progressing.
  • The actual grade must be entered on the CompuScholar website.

How to Grade an Activity

Step 1: Access the Activity

  1. Click the three dots next to the activity item.
  2. Select Preview.
  3. Click the link inside the preview to open the activity in CompuScholar (via LTI).

Step 2: View Student Submissions

  1. On the CompuScholar site, click the computer icon to view submissions.
  2. Select the student submission you would like to grade.

Step 3: Grade the Submission

When reviewing a submission:

  • Review the student’s answers.
  • Click the colored bar under “Points Awarded” to assign a score (0–5).
  • Enter feedback in the text field beneath each question (if desired).
  • The total score will automatically update under “Problem Grade.”

Step 4: Save and Submit the Grade

  1. Click the Save Grade button at the top of the page.
  2. Click OK in the confirmation pop-up to submit the score.

Once submitted:

  • The updated grade will automatically sync and appear in the SchoolsPLP gradebook.

Optional Tip: Activity Submitted Notifications

To make grading easier to manage, you may choose to:

  • Unhide the “Activity Submitted Notification” item in the course.

When enabled:

  • Students can notify you when they have submitted an activity that requires grading.
  • This helps streamline communication and grading awareness.

Best Practices for C-CS Courses

  • Remember that activity grading must occur on the CompuScholar website.
  • Always click Save Grade and confirm submission.
  • Monitor your gradebook to ensure grades sync correctly.
  • Consider enabling submission notifications to stay informed.
